Technical Report TALANA-RT-94-01, TALANA, Universite' Paris 7, 1994. Status of the XTAG System C. Doran, D. Egedi, B. A. Hockey, B. Srinivas Institute for Research in Cognitive Science University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA 19104-6228, USA fcdoran, egedi, beth, [email protected] Abstract XTAG is an ongoing project to develop a wide-coverage grammar for English, based on the Feature-based Lexicalized Tree Adjoining Grammar (FB-LTAG) formalism. The XTAG system integrates a morphological analyzer, an N-best part-of-speech tagger, an Earlystyle parser and an X-window interface, along with a wide-coverage grammar for English developed using the system. This system serves as a linguist's workbench for developing FB-LTAG speci cations. This paper presents a description of and recent improvements to the various components of the XTAG system. It also presents the recent performance of the wide-coverage grammar on various corpora and compares it against the performance of other wide-coverage and domainspeci c grammars.

Cost analysis of multiplex PCR testing for diagnosing respiratory virus infections.

We performed a cost analysis study using decision tree modeling to determine whether the use of multiplex PCR testing for respiratory viruses (xTAG RVP test) is a more or less costly strategy than the status quo testing methods used for the diagnosis of respiratory virus infections in pediatric patients. The decision tree model was constructed by using four testing strategies for respiratory vi...

Maintaining The Forest And Burning Out The Underbrush In XTAG

In this paper we report on the recent advancements and current status of the XTAG Project, housed at the University of Pennsylvania. We discuss the current coverage of the system, as evaluated on the TSNLP English sentences, hierarchical organization of the grammar, and the new and more portable implementation of the X-interface to the grammar and all of the supporting tools in CLISP, which is ...

Translating the XTAG English grammar to HPSG

We describe the development of XHPSG, a large-scale English grammar in the HPSG formalism translated from the XTAG grammar (The XTAG Research Group, 1995). Our goal is to obtain a large-scale, linguistically sound grammar for our HPSG parser (Makino et al., 1998) with a relatively small workload. For this purpose, we try to make an HPSG grammar equivalent to the XTAG grammar in the strong sense...

A Lexicalized Tree Adjoining Grammar for English

This document describes a sizable grammar of English written in the TAG formalism and implemented for use with the XTAG system. This report and the grammar described herein supersedes the TAG grammar described in an earlier 1995 XTAG technical report. The English grammar described in this report is based on the TAG formalism which has been extended to include lexicalization, and unification-bas...
